For a Silverado replacement, the name of the truck is only the starting point. The year, series, ignition equipment and functions on the existing remote help identify the key or fob you actually need.
Give the Silverado series and year
Tell us whether the vehicle is a Silverado 1500, a heavy-duty truck or another Silverado derivative. Include the model year and whether the ignition uses a blade or a start button. If the vehicle has been upfitted for work, mention any added security equipment. A replacement chosen solely from the Silverado badge or an exterior picture may not match the truck’s installed equipment.
Keyless Open is equipment-dependent
Chevrolet’s owner support describes Keyless Open and Keyless Start as features on equipped vehicles. Its guidance directs owners to the vehicle manual for the location of the mechanical lock cylinder and other vehicle-specific details. Do not transfer an access or backup-start instruction from a different Chevy into your Silverado without checking its manual. Tell us whether you need mechanical entry, the electronic starting function, remote buttons or all of these.
An official parts listing is still a fitment question
The Chevrolet Accessories catalog lists a particular five-button remote for specified Silverado 1500 model years. That kind of listing is useful because it identifies a product and a vehicle range, but it is not a rule that every Silverado uses that remote. Button count alone does not identify the correct specification, and a parts price is not an installed locksmith-service estimate. Confirm the complete vehicle details before buying a fob.
Describe a working-key job differently from all keys lost
If you want another key and the truck still starts with the original, bring that key and any additional remotes. If no key remains, make that clear at the beginning of the call. State whether the truck is locked and where it can be reached. For a company truck, have the authorized contact and evidence of permission ready so the visit is arranged for the right person.
Check the agreed functions on the truck
Review whether the estimate includes a blade, remote programming and any supported remote-start or tailgate function. Test the functions that were included rather than assuming every icon on the shell can be used. Keep the new spare separate from the everyday key and give another driver the correct replacement information if the truck is shared.
